The Pixies are our youngest children who often join us from age 2. We appreciate that when your child first comes to Gosling's it may be the first time that they have been separated from you. The Pixie team are trained in understanding and sympathetically dealing with behaviour, to enable the settling in process to be as smooth as possible. They liaise closely with you to ensure any difficulties are dealt with quickly and sensitively.
During this time they will be assessed and observed so that the team can make suggestions as to where your child's learning journey should take them. This information will be shared with you regularly to enable you to work with us in helping your child.
We have a dedicated area ideally suited to 'settling in' called the "Pixie Area". Here, parents and carers can sit, chat and help the children get used to their new environment. Once they have found their feet, the children will become more curious and start to explore the other areas of the Gosling's.
The official nursery year is known at Gosling's as the Star Year. The children are separated into keyworker groups. The keyworker's role is to ensure your child accesses all our activities and develops to their full potential. Records of their achievements are shared with you regularly and discussed so that the child is able to move forward in a positive way.
Through high quality teaching and timely interventions, the Star children make excellent progress in the EYFS.
At Gosling's we follow the national strategy for "Letters and Sounds" which is delivered daily by our Early Years Foundation Stage Co-ordinator. Her sessions include exploring environmental sounds, instrumental sounds as well as letter sounds. This means children have an excellent range of pre-reading skills as they enter their reception year.
